For the last eleven years, I have worked in community mental health serving individuals who have more than mental health issues, they are experiencing poverty, marginalization, isolation, and decades worth of trauma. I was trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and saw the amazing hope and healing it brought to people, but I also saw how removed many of the trainers and consultants were from the people I served. I became an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Trainer to be a resource for clinicians who feel consultants don’t understand their clients, are too rigid in their thinking, or who don’t respect our clients’ culture and identities.

When I took the EMDR Therapy training, I quickly realized how well its philosophy fit my experience. Since then, I have had experience applying EMDR Therapy to a variety of clinical presentations including depression, anxiety, substance use, and trauma. I have spent the majority of my career working in community mental health and substance abuse, which has developed my skills in applying EMDR to complex cases and treating historical trauma with EMDR.  While I have worked with a variety of issues, I value working with those who have experienced complex trauma, sexual abuse, and sexual assault.  I am also trained in comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and regularly integrate DBT, Ego State Therapy, and attachment-focused modalities into my work. As I recognize the way our systems, including the mental health system, are built with a limited ability to serve everyone, my goal is to apply a liberatory framework to the therapeutic relationship.

After experiencing the personal and professional benefits of EMDR Therapy, I recognized I had a desire to help others develop their skills in EMDR Therapy and increase the access to trauma therapy in the wider community.  I went on to become a Certified EMDR Therapist and Approved Consultant. I use my experience working with a variety of populations, most of which have experienced multiple interpersonal and systemic traumas, to provide consultation and training to other EMDR therapists.
